I have waited a few days to post this story because I wanted to celebrate all of the amazing things God did on Easter. But this is too ridiculous not too share. Let it never be said that I have not been transparent or authentic on this blog. Allow me to set the stage.
I participated in the grinders routine. In the picture a post below on this blog, I am the guy on the left. In order to prevent sparks from going directly into our eyes, we all wore these stylish safety glasses. After we were done with the grinders we had about one minute and forty seconds during a video to get out of our orange, prison jumpsuits and into our regular clothes and back out on stage to lead worship. Things were dark and crazy backstage as we were making the change and doing our best reenactment of Superman in the phone booth.
Now that you have the backstory, here is what happened. Everything went off perfectly at 8:30. The worship experience at 10 was another story. After I am done changing backstage I ask someone standing there if my jacket is on ok and if I look alright. They give me the thumbs up and tell me I am good to go. I then walk out on stage and do a verbal set up for the morning and get everyone up to sing Break Free. About halfway through the first verse this realization hits me like a ton of bricks – my safety glasses are still on!
There are two options at this point. Option 1 was to keep them on and do my best Bono impression. Option 2 was to throw them off quickly and hope no one even realized they were on. I went for option 2 and just kept on rolling like nothing had happened. Needless to say the glasses were the first thing that came off during the last two worship experiences. I have had to take a lot of “loved the glasses” comments this week, but I am sure everyone is laughing with me rather than at me. If you missed it, I am sure Wes would be happy to show you the whole thing on his Iphone.
"loved the glasses, you can never be too careful!"
You rocked the house....
