God has blessed us with some awesome new players at Elevation recently. Three guys that have just started playing with us are in a band called Public Radio. I went to their show tonight and it was pretty sick. You should definitely check them out.

Spin The Black Circle

I have a friend who thinks all good music stopped in the 90s. Pearl Jam may be his favorite band of all time, and in honor of him I will be listening to their greatest hits today.

What is one band you would tell him to listen to in order to restore his faith in today’s music?

Starbore

Everyone should go and get Chris Brown's solo debut, Starbore, right now. It is filled with infectious pop melodies that will stay in your head for days, excellent songwriting and his trademark powerhouse vocals. Trust me, you need some Starbore in your life. Just finished getting the first round of mixes from Jason. Everything sounds awesome! This is the part where we make notes on the songs and then go back and tweak the mixes, but there really isn’t much to change.

Not Too Tired To Rock

I am so tired after a whirlwind trip to Virginia for this guy's wedding and an awesome 4 worship experiences today. But not too tired to go see one of my favorite bands tonight with my wife and this guy. What makes it even better is that this show is free. Good times.

Matchlight

Today is the official release of Lee McDerment's new CD, A Matchlight In The Dark. If you don't like loud guitars and huge rock riffs, than this is not the worship CD for you. Trust me, the songs are great and this thing kicks you in the face from the first song and doesn't stop. Most importantly, this record magnifies the worth of Christ above all other things and I can't wait to see how churches outside of Newspring latch onto it. Lee is one of the most Christ-like people that I have ever met, and I am so excited for him.

Jason Hoard produced this album so you know the production quality is top notch. We are very grateful that the Newspring crew hooked us up with him. If you can make the CD Release Concert tonight,then you need to be there.

Everyone's A Critic

There are two people in the Elevation Church office with a great ear for musical talent. Their taste in music and ability to give thoughtful reviews of all genres is legendary among these parts. Who are these two staff members you ask? While you may think it is our Pastor or one of our worship leaders, these are not the two I speak of.

Our graphic designer, Ryan Hollingsworth, and Leadership Development Pastor, Larry Brey, are the resident music critics of our office. While those who know Ryan are not surprised by his vast knowledge, this does happen to be a newly discovered talent of Larry. Though they only agree on the merits of the great Rick Astley, their respect for one another runs deep. Check out Ryan's best albums of 2007 and Larry Brey's review of the latest Feist record.

Now ask yourself this question ... who would you rather go to a concert with?
