We are beginning a new series this Sunday at Ignite on healthy relationships. The first topic will be the family, and after watching 24 last night I think the Bauer family definitely needs to be in attendance! Well, I guess it is too late for Jack's brother.
Today has been a pretty incredible day. There is so much information in my head that I am processing right now, and God is officially rocking my world. I am being challenged, encouraged, refreshed, convicted, and overcome with the hugeness of God and how wonderful it is to be part of His mission - the Church. The session this morning was about how we are to be a living Eucharist - that Jesus instituted the Lord's supper not only as a ritual to remember His body being broken and His blood poured out for the world, but that He was also calling His bride to that same life of sacrifice. He also stressed the importance of recognizing the immense weight of leadership in the church, and encouraged us to observe a Sabbath so that God could put our soul back together when we are broken for the sake of others. I feel such a restlessness in my spirit to be used by God, and I am excited and a little nervous about where that might lead.
Tonight we made it back in time for another amazing episode of 24, and then went to the hot tub to process the day's events. Rob Bell, 24 and a hot tub. This is the life! If only Ferris were here too.
So Ferris and I have gotten into The Office lately, and have been catching up with past seasons on DVD. It is hilarious and definitely our kind of humor. However, I have made an unsettling discovery. If you watch the show, you will understand how bad this is. Dwight likes Star Wars. I like Star Wars. Dwight quotes a line from Smallville. I watch Smallville. Dwight is a fan of Battlestar Galactica. The same goes for me. This is not a trend that makes me feel confident in my cool factor. It's all good, though, because I have an amazing and insanely hot wife. In your face, Dwight!
There are two big reasons I am looking forward to Sunday! This week's Ignite is going to be all that and a bag of chips. (Yeah, I really just said that) Seriously, when we evaluated last weeks Ignite, we felt like all of the individual components were good, but as a whole something was missing. In fact, we thought if this was one of the earlier Ignite's from the fall semester, we would have been very happy with it. But one thing we never want to do is rest in past success and get comfortable. We want to celebrate what God has done, and then keep building on that. We want each week to be a more creative and powerful way of presenting the gospel, and we are constantly praying that God will exceed all of our wildest dreams by what He does in this ministry. So, our part is to pray hard and give God our best as we plan our worship gathering. That being said, we have some cool stuff coming your way this Sunday. I am pumped, and can't wait for Sunday to get here. Hey, any time I get to do a Coldplay song gets me fired up!
Also, the greatest television show know to man returns this Sunday. 24 is back and better than ever! I will have more about this in a later post, but make sure you get your rest this weekend, because instead of one episode - we get 4 hours of Jack Bauer goodness!
It has been a gloomy past 5 months in world affairs - North Korea, Iraq, Iran, and the list goes on and on. Today there is a glimmer of hope and a feeling that everything is going to be ok. Jack Bauer is back. Details are sketchy as to what kind of torture he has had to endure at the hands of China, but rest easy, America, Jack is back. At least kind of. Watch the preview for season 6 of 24 here.
