Twin Update

It has been awhile since I have given an update on the girls. Both of them are doing great and we are praying hard that they can come home within the next few weeks. It is hard to believe that they turned 10 weeks old today! 

Please pray for these specific things with us:

-That Liana would do better with her bottles and stop having reflux. This is causing her to still have bradies and we want this to pass without her needing medicine.

-For Liana to get off of her oxygen soon.

-For Adleigh to readjust to eating so that she can get to full feeds again.

If they can overcome these last few challenges they will be on their way home. We are extremely thankful for the progress they are making. I love them both so much and am more than ready for our hospital days to be over!

So Much To Do

So much to do tonight as I wrap up some loose ends to get ready for a huge weekend at church. Good thing I just downloaded the new "secret" Bloc Party disc that just came out to keep me going.

By the way, because Adleigh was sick I didn't get to hold her for almost two weeks. Tonight I finally got to hold her for a good 30 minutes and it was awesome! She smiled and loved hearing her daddy sing to her. At least that is what I like to tell myself. I love my girls!

Great Day!

3 reasons why today was such a great day!

-Adleigh got off the vent and back on the nasal cannula!

-Church today was amazing! It was literally one of the most powerful worship experiences I have ever been a part of. We did our version of the cardboard testimony video that has been online a lot lately. It was incredible to see the story of our church as people were very honest about who they were before Christ, and how they have been radically changed by His grace. 

-Tonight we had a preview service at McGlohon and the place was full of energy. I was jumping around so much at the end of the service that I almost knocked my guitar over on its stand. Seriously, you need to be at the launch of Elevation Uptown next week. It's hard to believe that today was our last Sunday with only 2 campuses!

Update

The surgery went really well and Adleigh is just chillin enjoying the pain meds. If it is anything like her last surgery, she will be out for awhile. Thanks for your prayers!

Surgery

It looks more and more like Adleigh has pneumonia. Her x-rays showed a lot of junk in her lungs, and they suction a lot out from her vent tube. She has been more active last night and today and is taking more breaths on her own with the vent, so it does look like she is feeling better.

The big news is they are probably doing surgery on her today. They tried a 4th time to get a long term IV in and couldn't do it, so today they will surgically put a line in. Please pray that the surgery will go smoothly and that there will be no complications. Also, pray that God heals Adleigh of her sickness so she can get off the vent.

Liana is doing great. We actually had a doctor tell us yesterday that even they aren't supposed to use the word miracle, the fact that Liana didn't have to get a shunt put in because of her brain bleed was definitely a miracle. It was awesome to hear that God has already gotten glory through our girls. 

Adleigh Update

The doctors still can't figure out what is wrong with Adleigh. None of the blood cultures have come back positive, so they think it is either a viral infection or meningitis. The also have had a hard time getting her long term IV in after two failed attempts. If they can't get it on a third attempt, they will have to do surgery to put a tube in. Please pray for the Lord to move mightily today in the life of our little girl. We are asking for her complete and quick recovery, that the IV will be successful on the third try and that she will not have meningitis.

A Step Back

Adleigh is back in the NICU on a ventilator tonight. The crazy thing is that last night she was moved to .2 Liters, which is basically almost no extra oxygen, and her stomach x-ray looked good this morning. Over the course of the day, however, she kept desatting even when they increased her flow. Her blood work came back and showed her hemoglobin was very low so they gave her a blood transfusion tonight. The doctors are also running tests to see if she has an infection. Her main problem was the fact that she was having severe apnea spells where she didn't breath. Thankfully, I got to the hospital right before they put her back on the vent. At this point I am just glad she can get the rest she needs.

Today's events feel like they came out of nowhere, but God has every bit of it under His control and in that we find great comfort. I am finding more and more that worship is the best thing I can do when I get overwhelmed or discouraged. There is so much strength to be found in lifting up the name of the Lord. Some of my most intense times of worship have been in the car on the way home from the hospital. Even when I don't necessarily feel like it, tonight being one of those nights, it is amazing how my heart changes when I focus it on Jesus. I have had a lot of questions during this process as to why God allows different circumstances to unfold, but these questions seem to get smaller during worship. The name of the Lord is a strong tower and when we run to it we find peace. Psalm 32 says the Lord's unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in Him. I pray that God will give me the grace to be a man like that as we continue to believe for their complete healing.

Go to my wife's blog for specific prayer requests with the girls. I know I didn't give Liana any love in this blog, but I am happy to report that she is doing great! She went from 1 Liter to .8 Liters on her oxygen today which is awesome!

Prayer for Adleigh

We got word today that Adleigh has some air in her intestines. It isn't much, but they watch this kind of thing very closely because it can be a symptom of a serious condition called NEC. They took her off her feeds for 24 hours and put the IV back in. If she still has it tomorrow they will move her back to the NICU.

We want everyone to pray that God will fix this today so that she will be able to stay in Progressive Care and resume her feeds. We have seen the Lord answer so many prayers, so I can't wait to see God work in this situation as well. Thank you for faithfully lifting our girls up to the Lord!

Reunited!

So Liana had to be with her sister and made it to Progressive Care today! She gave us a little scare about 5 minutes before she went there with a weird 5 minute episode of crazy desats and bradys. It was weird and out of nowhere. We think her reflux was acting up because she stabilized long enough so that the nurses still felt good about her making the move. All that matters is she and her sister are doing great and one step closer to coming home! 

Please pray for both girls and their reflux issues. The only time either have apnea or brady spells is when they eat. This is caused by reflux which is a common preemie issue. They usually grow out of it, so pray that our girls will move past it quickly. 

 

Big Steps Forward

Adleigh went to the Progressive Care Nursery today! She is down to .5 Liters on her oxygen at 21% (room air) which is so close to breathing completely on her own. 

Liana is down to 1 Liter on her oxygen and is doing great. If she does well with it overnight then she will probably join her sister in Progressive Care tomorrow. 

When I think of all God has done over the last two months I am amazed. He has been so faithful to our girls and answered our prayers through every step of this process. One of our big sun stand still prayers has been that the girls would go home earlier than anyone expects. The original date the doctors gave us was Sept. 18, but we have always prayed that we could get them home by the end of August. A lot still has to happen, but it is beginning to look like it could become reality. God is so good!
