So here we are in Michigan enjoying the snow after a great Sunday night service at Mars Hill Church. Rob Bell had a powerful message tonight on Luke 17 dealing with the warning Jesus gave against allowing a sense of entitlement to creep into our heart. No matter how faithful our service to God is, or how sacrificial our actions may be, we are ultimately just servants obeying our Master who has already given us every good and perfect gift in Christ Jesus. We shouldn't expect a pat on the back or some special payback from God for doing something we were supposed to do anyway. God doesn't owe us anything, and we never want to fall into the trap of thinking our list of what we are giving God outweighs what He has done for us. That leads to a loss of joy in our lives. The goal is that what we delight in will actually line up with what our duty is as a follower of Jesus. Worship was very special tonight, and I sensed the presence of God in a way that I haven't in awhile. The band was in middle of the room and facing inward, and it created such an intimate feeling in a non-intimate setting with a lot of people. The conference starts tomorrow, and I am pumped!
On a different note, none of our luggage made it here! I am glad I like the clothes I am wearing because I might be keeping it real in them for the next few days.
By the way, the ski trip rocked and once again I showed off my incredible moves on the slopes. I actually got Ferris to ski with me, and she was awesome! I was so proud of her. I was actually bragging to her about the fact that I hadn't fallen all day, and then I fell down immediately after that - on the bunny slope!
